Protect your business from Cyber Fraud.

Over the years I have seen businesses of all shapes and sizes suffer from Cyber Attacks and Cyber fraud. I have even witnessed first-hand when a family member got caught off guard. In all cases, the results can be devastating. There are a huge array of solutions out there which offer us protection at various points of our network. Be it Email filtering, Next Generation Firewalls, Anti-Virus or Anti-Malware solutions and many more.

No solution is perfect. Awareness of a vulnerability or exploit is required and it's not unusual to be a victim of “Zero Day” attacks. Zero Day is exactly as it reads. The day when a new vulnerability in an operating system or application is first discovered by a hacker or Cyber Criminal. Attacks are launched before a “cure” or “patch” or “Virus Signature” is made available. To make matters worse, these exploits are often posted in dedicated forums or sold on the dark web. These are then followed up by lots more criminals and even amateurs jumping on the band wagon for good measure. So, if your technology solutions cannot stop the nasty’s getting into your network, what can you do?

Educate

The best thing we can all do is educate ourselves and/or staff on a regular basis to be aware, cautious and vigilant. After all, it is our staff that the criminals are normally targeting. Thus it is our staff that we must rely upon if something nasty does slip through the net. Fortunately, there are now a lot of security vendors who have put a lot of focus on solutions that can do just that.

They provide the training for your staff to be aware and most put in place a regular refresher or test to ensure your staff remain vigilant. Or you could turn to the UK Government’s National Cyber Security Centre which provide excellent information and FREE training for your staff to either start them on the journey to awareness or act as a refresher. They have also made a great infographic with some top tips for your staff to stay safe which you can download from the site.
